Smarter, Simpler and Stronger – Latchways New Range of Retractable Lanyards

MSA-Latchways-Product-Group

Latchways was founded in 1974 are are arguably best known for introducing to the height safety industry the Transfastener. The Transfastener allows continuous movement along horizontal cable. This eliminates the need for people using the system to detach and reattach to the system when crossing cable supports.

The latest offering sees Latchways introducing a range of Personal Fall Limiters (PFL’s) and Self Retracting Lifelines (SRL’s) to provide, in their words, “…smarter, simpler and stronger alternatives to traditional SRLs.”

Latchways have applied an innovative and unique technology to the internal workings of the SRL. They have created a range that has some of the most advanced, reliable and cost effective devices available. The unique energy-absorbing mechanism has no moving parts and does not require adjustment or recalibration during product life.

Traditional SRLs rely upon a friction based braking mechanism to absorb energy in the event of a fall. This system requires regular retensioning. Due to complexity and tooling required this must be performed in services centers. Latchways unique energy-absorbing mechanism has no moving parts and does not require adjustment or recalibration during product life. Even in the event of a fall, the modular design means that energy absorber and cable can be removed. Then replaced in minutes onsite with simple tooling.

The Latchways pawls are are always in contact with central tooth disc providing a highly reliable means of fall arrest. The device makes a sound as the pawls click over each tooth. In contrast traditional SRL’s employ pawls that centrifugally lock into toothed discs or casing and only engage in the event of a fall. Correct pawl function can only be verified when these devices are physically tested.

The benefits of these features are immediately obvious

  • Improved Cost of Ownership – service costs are avoided with field servicing.
  • No Return to Manufacturer – avoid complicated logistics by recertifying SRL’s on-site
  • Reduced Fleet Size – no need for “stand-by” devices to use while SRL’s are being serviced

The Latchways range of Self Retracting Lifelines (SRL’s) includes webbing, galvanised steel, and stainless steel lifeline options in lengths from 7 to 15 metres. The Personal Fall Limiters (PFL’s) available in either 1.8 or 3 metre webbing and equipped with alloy or steel snap, scaffold or swivel hooks.
